There are so many questions you may be having as you decide to embark on your first surrogacy journey. What will it be like to carry the child of another person? What will my relationship be like with the intended parents? Will my children understand that the baby in my belly is not ours?
Having a lot of questions before committing to a surrogacy journey is perfectly normal and something to expect.
“I always wanted to do something special for another person and I didn't know how much work went into making it happen.”
In order to carry a child for another person, a surrogate must undergo a variety of tests and screenings to make sure she and the baby will be safe during and after the pregnancy. As a surrogate, expect to have a legal contract, to undergo various medical screenings, administer medications to yourself and/or have a support person do it for you; you will have to take a psychological test and have a criminal background check completed.
Expect for some people to react lovingly towards your decision to carry the child of another person and for others to react with confusion or even displeasure. Expect to be asked many questions and for you to not have all the answers.
